In 1881 Rangai authored a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Rangai Gafu (i.e., Picture Album by Rangai). It included the thirteen pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Rangai’s drawing style was modeled on a Chinese style whose objective was to depict the internal spirit of the living objects appearing in a picture rather than their true external form and colors.
